It's been another awesome year working with The Patient Zeros on various show flyers as well as designing artwork for their new album, Sirens Calling. The band is local to Denver, and experienced quite a bit of success this last year, launching two tours as well as releasing Sirens Calling in the spring.
To get started on the album artwork for Sirens Calling, the guys (Joe Schramm, drums, and CJ Kjolhede, vocals and guitar) and I sat down to brainstorm. With an album title like Sirens Calling, the ideas for visuals quickly flowed, and we decided what direction the artwork would take relatively easily.
The process began with a pencil sketch on paper that I actually presented to the band one night right before they went on stage. They loved the concept and so I got to work on illustrating the final. Once the final drawing had been established on paper, it was brought into Photoshop where I manipulated the sky to achieve the ominous look I was going for. We went through various drafts together, playing with color, but ultimately decided to stick with the original black and white with pops of color coming through in the sky.
The artwork turned out simple with a muted quality to the tone, but yet achieves a sinister foreshadowing that the band desired.
The adventure continued with a few quick and dirty show flyers that were a lot of fun to create.
Best of luck to The Patient Zeros as they continue onward and upward in 2017. Check out their music and upcoming shows on their website: http://www.thepatientzeros.com/
